Epic Adventures in Retirement
Dottie (dog), Clarice (RV) and I (Karen) have been on an epic nine month journey. We traveled south down the Natchez Trace Parkway and then turned southwest visiting Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountain National Park and Carlbad Caverns. Heading into Arizona, we learned that Pack Rats are a real animal and grew weary of the desert dry. So, we turned west to the coast and water. After being joined by a friend, in Orange County we took the famous highway 1 along the coast and Big Sur dropping her in Sonoma after a two week visit.
Wow, already, right! I was learning the amount of planning that went into staying on the road long term. So, we slowed down a bit to plan and give the weather time to change, because our next big plan was to drive the Alcan (Alaska Canada) highway to spend the summer in Alaska! Heading into Canada in early May, we drove the Alcan and learned so much of the history and beauty of this remote place. We spent the summer in Alaska. Please explore our posts to learn all the things we did and saw.
IT IS EPIC!
New Chapter
We returned home to Michigan in early September. I have enjoyed a hiatus and have taken up graphite drawing. I’m doing portraits and will post some at some point. Clarice is in winter storage until April and I have some gardening plans for the spring. I expect Clarice, Dottie and I to head out again later this summer for a couple of shorter trips and then to head out longer term after Thanksgiving to spent the winter in the warmer (not dry) south. I hope you enjoy the epic journey we took and documented in the posts. More to come as we continue to find retirement adventures!
